Embrace the Winter Fun in Weston County

See what adventures await

Embrace what winter is all about in Weston County with endless exciting adventures. While the idea of cozying up with a hot cup of cocoa by a crackling fireplace sounds enticing, it’s all the better after a day of winter thrills in a winter wonderland. With numerous options including snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, fat tire biking, ice fishing and much more, you’ll be quick to fall in love with the winter season in Wyoming.

Let’s dig a little deeper into each one of these:

  • Snowmobiling – With nearby access to hundreds of miles of groomed trails as part of the Black Hills Snowmobile Trail System, there’s days of endless adventure at the turn of a throttle. Combine that with tens of thousands of acres of off-trail riding, and the fun never stops. In addition, the Flying V Trail system just east of town offers 50 miles of groomed trails for your enjoyment.
  • Cross-country skiing – Several of summer’s hiking trails turn into winter cross country ski trails. Just up the road towards Lead, SD is the Eagle Cliff Trail System. With twenty-one intertwining loops and dead-end trails, the system offers fun and challenge at every turn.
  • Fat Tire Biking – A little bit of snow doesn’t spot biking enthusiasts. Fat tire biking allows you to take your biking adventures off-road and onto snow-covered trails. There are several options outside both Newcastle and Upton.
  • Ice Fishing – Just a couple miles southeast of town is the LAK Reservoir, which in the winter, is a popular destination for ice fishing. The reservoir is home to a variety of species, including Walleye, Tiger Muskie and Smallmouth Bass species.

The towns of Newcastle and Upton offer the perfect place to call home as you explore the beautiful Black Hills this winter. You’ll have great places to stay, numerous delicious food options and don’t forget about local shopping.

Winter isn’t a season to be endured, it’s a season to be enjoyed. From thrilling winter activities  to a hometown feel, Weston County offers exciting ways to make the most of the frosty wonderland. Whether you crave high-speed adventure, peaceful exploration, or an off-road cycling challenge, there’s something for everyone. So bundle up, get outside, and embrace the magic of winter with these unforgettable experiences.
